Courtesy call from State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan

On January 29, 2018 at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, H.E. Senior Minister Sun Chanthol received a courtesy call from H.E. Kazuyuki NAKANE), State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, accompanied by Japanese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The Senior Minister Sun expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to H.E. Mr. Nakane, his Ministry, JICA, and the Japanese government for the friendship and support in helping to build a better future for Cambodia.

H.E. Kazuyuki NAKANE) and Minister Sun exchanged views and discussed the ongoing assistance and support of the Japanese Government on the development of the southern corridor road infrastructure including the NR#5 and NR#1, the development of Sihanoukville port, the improvements in public transportation in Phnom Penh, the on-going development of Phnom Penh’s sewage treatment infrastructure, and the project for improving Cambodia’s logistics systems.

In addition, Minister Sun requested the Japanese Government for assistance and support in strengthening the Ministry’s road maintenance capacity through the provision of quality road maintenance, the completion of the multi-purpose terminal project and projects for the new deep sea port container terminal development.

He also sought the assistance in promoting more Japanese investors to invest in Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone, speeding up the AGT feasibility study for the traffic congestion improvement in Phnom Penh, and providing the technical experts to support the introduction of port EDI and the upcoming operation of taxi boat in Cambodia.

In his capacity as President of the Khmer Swimming Federation, the Minister requested that the Japanese government provide expert swimming coaches to train Cambodian swimmers, and to sponsor some Cambodian swimmers to be trained in Japan, in the preparation for the Olympic Game in 2020 in Tokyo, Japan and the ASEAN Game in 2023.

H.E. Nakane acknowledged the Senior Ministers requests and expressed his interest on Cambodia’s strategic location, young and dynamic workforce and constantly improving infrastructure. H.E. Nakane pledged on behalf of the Japanese government to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
