Cambodia’s tourism sector earned more than US$15 billion for national revenue, according to a recent summary report on major achievements of the Royal Government of Cambodia in the fifth mandate, from 2013 to 2017.
The Kingdom welcomed 4.21 million foreign arrivals in 2013, 4.5 million in 2014, 4.78 million in 2015, 5.01 million in 2016, and 5.6 million in 2017, generating some US$2.54, US$2.73, US$3.01, US$3.21, and dUS$3.63 billion as national income, respectively, it added.
This increase reflects clearly the efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia led by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen in maintaining peace, political stability, security and development in all sectors.
By 2017, Cambodia had 394 listed tourism resorts, including 114 historical cultural tourism resorts, 21 natural historical cultural tourism resorts, 27 natural cultural tourism resorts and 196 natural tourism resorts.
There were in total 781 hotels of more than 45.000 rooms, 2.255 guest houses of over 33.720 rooms, 2,239 restaurants, 619 tour agencies and 5,291 tour guides of 12 languages – Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Russian, Spanish, Thai, and Vietnamese – in Cambodia, as of last year.
For the first four months of 2018, Cambodia attracted 2.4 million foreign visitors, up nearly 14 percent compared with the same period last year. The figure is expected to rise to over 6 million by the end of this year and to 7 million in 2020, generating about US$5 billion income and creating some 1 million direct jobs.
