Ministry of Commerce and Google Discuss Cooperation in ICT Field

On 20 January 2017, H.E. SOK Sopheak, Under Secretary of State, Ministry of Commerce, allowed Ms. Marian Croak, Vice President of Access Strategy and Emerging Markets, to pay a courtesy call at Ministry of Commerce to discuss the plan of the Ministry of Commerce to leverage ICT infrastructure development in Cambodia as to take advantage of new business opportunity and address new challenges.

H.E. SOK Sopheak briefed her about the policy of Ministry of Commerce related to ICT, in which the Ministry of Commerce is in the process of finalizing the draft of E-Commerce Law and put into use the Business Registration, Certificate of Origin (Form A) and Trade Mark Registration automation systems. Some of these systems are currently in the process of integrating with various systems from other institutions including the General Department of Taxation, the General Department of Custom and Excise and others in the near future. In addition, His Excellency also addressed the challenges of ICT in Cambodia such as human resource and the lack of financial and technical support to review and update ICT policies in both micro and macro level.

In response, Ms. Marian Croak thanked H.E. SOK Sopheak for providing a lot of information regarding the ICT infrastructure development in Cambodia and promised to help and continue working with Ministry of Commerce to push ICT enhancement as a response to the implementation of trade facilitation.
