On January 24, 2017, H.E. Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport, chaired a meeting to review the preparatory survey for the Phnom Penh- Bavet Expressway Development Project Study, conducted by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The Project study is aimed at exploring the feasibility and benefits of constructing the Phnom Penh Bavet Expressway. The benefits of the expressway include improving regional connectivity and development, shorten travel time, reduce transportation costs, mitigate traffic congestion and expand trade with the neighboring countries.
Mr. Tatsuyuki Sakurai, JICA Project team leader presented the draft final report on the preparatory survey for the Phnom Penh- Bavet Expressway Development Project, explaining the key elements of the survey in relation to the preliminary design, cost estimates, project scheme, project implementation plan and the funding scheme possibilities.
Minister Sun expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to JICA on behalf of the country for the detailed and comprehensive survey. He encouraged participants to give their critical comments based upon the survey’s results. He also confirmed that he will further discuss with the funding mechanism with the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the possibility to move the project forward.
