Thailand to help develop the Halal industry in Cambodia

In the afternoon of 30 January 2017, during the talk with H.E. PAN Sorasak, Cambodian Minister of Commerce, H.E. Darm Boontham, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Royal Thai Embassy in Cambodia, stated that Thailand wishes to expand its Halal industry production into Cambodian markets in order to serve 100 Muslim communities and the tourists visiting the kingdom.

H.E. Darm Boontham told Commerce Minister that Thailand will organize a small seminar in April to share the experience with Cambodia on the development of Halal products and to promote the cooperation between businesspeople of the two countries. This task requires the Ministry of Commerce’s endorsement.

In response, H.E. PAN Sorasak expressed his welcome and support to the initiative of H.E. Darm Boontham because the Royal Government of Cambodia had acknowledged the importance of Halal for the national economic growth development. H.E. Minister told his Thai counterpart the ministry has finalized the sub-decree and created the committee to examine the Halal products, prepare the roadmap and standard certificates for Halal to inform traders and the citizens.

H.E. Minister also requested H.E. Darm Boontham to cooperate with the General Directorate of Trade Promotion for organizing the seminar and to create training programs for Cambodian officials especially conducting more workshops and study visits for them to explore the Halal development mechanism in Thailand.
